Ambisonics
Ambisonic recordings play a unique role in the evolving field of spatialized audio production. By capturing sound in an entire 360-degree sphere with only four strategically positioned microphones, ambisonics allow for unprecedented flexibility and immersion. This format enables us to capture the ambiance of a space and extract distinct audio perspectives during post-production, making it ideal for projects where immersive soundscapes are essential. Currently, we’re employing ambisonics with the Zoom H3-VR 360 recorder mounted atop our VR camera, capturing an authentic spatial experience for our V4 video productions. This setup allows us to pair visual and auditory immersion seamlessly, enhancing the viewer’s connection to the content through an encompassing audio experience that places them at the heart of the scene.

Below is a great example of an ambisonic audio recording converted to a binaural recording. It was a lovely fall day, and the leaves swirled around the ambisonic recording device. (note: you must use a good headset to hear the details of the binaural recording.)
